How To Make The Sazerac

The Sazerac: a New Orleans innovation or hoax? This tasty spirit-forward cocktail has a bit of a dubious history, but any fans of the Old Fashioned would be remiss not to dabble in this classic.



EQUIPMENT

  1. Cocktail set (includes Boston shaker, jigger, bar spoon, hawthorne strainer, fine mesh strainer, julep strainer, muddler, cocktail picks)

  2. Angled measuring jigger

  3. Fancy mixing glass

  4. Julep strainer

  5. Rocks glasses

  6. Mt. Fuji rocks glass

  7. Atomizer spray


Sazerac

  • 2oz (60ml) rye

  • .25oz (7ml) simple syrup

  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters

  • Absinthe spray

  1. Take 2 old fashioned glasses and chill one with ice water

  2. Fill the other with rye, simple syrup and bitters and stir with ice

  3. Discard ice water from first old fashioned glass and spray with absinthe using an atomizer

  4. Strain cocktail into the absinthe coated glass

  5. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy


Original Sazerac

  • 2oz (60ml) brandy

  • .25oz (7ml) simple syrup

  • 3 dashes Peychaud’s bitters

  1. Add all ingredients to a mixing glass with ice and stir

  2. Strain cocktail into an old fashioned glass

  3. Garnish with a lemon twist and enjoy
