Gibson Cocktail from Queen's Gambit

Queen's Gambit is a mini-series about an orphaned chess prodigy with a penchant for pills and cocktails, and her poison of choice is a classic martini variation called a Gibson. We'll learn this simple recipe and see if we can punch it up using some advanced techniques.

Gibson Cocktail

  • .2oz (60ml) London dry gin

  • 1oz (30ml) dry vermouth

  • 3 cocktail onions


  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a mixing glass with ice

  2. Stir and strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass

  3. Garnish with cocktail onions on a pick


Enhanced Gibson Cocktail

  • .2oz (60ml) onion infused gin

  • 1oz (30ml) dry vermouth

  • 2 dashes celery bitters

  • 1 cocktail onion


  1. Combine 4oz (120ml) gin and 5 cocktail onions in a cream whipper

  2. Charge with 1 NO2 canister, shake, charge with second canister

  3. Let rest for 2 minutes, discharge NO2, and strain out gin

  4. Combine infused gin, vermouth, and bitters in a mixing glass with ice

  5. Stir for 45 seconds and strain into a chilled coupe or Nick & Nora glass

  6. Garnish with a single cocktail onion
