How To Make A Hot Toddy
The hot toddy. It’s basically winter’s version of the old fashioned. A template for a drink rather than a specific recipe, let’s have some fun with it and make 3 versions to keep your belly warm this winter.
EQUIPMENT
Cocktail set (includes Boston shaker, jigger, bar spoon, hawthorne strainer, fine mesh strainer, julep strainer, muddler, cocktail picks)
Classic Hot Toddy
2oz (60ml) whiskey (or your favorite spirit)
.25oz (7ml) maple syrup (or your favorite sweetener)
3oz (90ml) hot water
2 dashes Angostura bitters
.25oz (7ml) fresh lemon juice (optional)
Warm an Irish coffee mug with hot water
Add all ingredients into your mug and stir
Garnish with a lemon peel studded with cloves
Chamomile Toddy
2oz (60ml) calvados or apple brandy
.25oz (7ml) honey
3oz (90ml) chamomile tea
2 dashes black walnut bitters
Warm an Irish coffee mug with hot water
Add all ingredients into your mug and stir
Garnish with a cinnamon stick
Ginger Lemon Toddy
2oz (60ml) Cognac
.25oz (7ml) vanilla syrup (recipe below)
3oz (90ml) lemon ginger tea
2 dashes orange bitters
Warm an Irish coffee mug with hot water
Add all ingredients into your mug and stir
Garnish with the spent vanilla pod
Vanilla Syrup
1 cup (200g) sugar
1 cup (230ml) water
1 vanilla pod
Add sugar and water to a saucepan
Slice down the middle of the vanilla pod and fan open the sides
Using the back of your knife, scrape out all the seeds
Add seeds and used pod into the saucepan
Simmer for about 10 minutes
Bottle with a tablespoon of vodka and store for up to 2 weeks in the fridge
