Manhattan - 3 Ways

The classic Manhattan is a 3 ingredient drink that’s simple to make but easy to get wrong. Let’s learn to make it from the basic build in the glass to the pro serve, and maybe we’ll get into some wild shit at the end. Cheers to the 212 baby!



EQUIPMENT

  1. Cocktail set (includes Boston shaker, jigger, bar spoon, hawthorne strainer, fine mesh strainer, julep strainer, muddler, cocktail picks)

  2. Angled measuring jigger

  3. Mixing glass

  4. Coupe glasses

  5. Rocks glasses

  6. Cooler for ice

  7. Power drill

  8. 1/2” spade drill bit

  9. Smoking gun


Basic Manhattan

  • 2oz (60ml) Rittenhouse rye

  • 1oz (30ml) Martini & Rossi sweet vermouth

  • 2 dashes Angostura bitters

  • Red maraschino cherries


  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a rocks glass with ice

  2. Stir to mix ingredients

  3. Garnish with a cherry


Pro Manhattan

  • 2oz (60ml) Whistlepig 10yr rye

  • 1oz (30ml) Carpano Antica sweet vermouth

  • 1 dash Angostura bitters

  • 1 dash black walnut bitters

  • Luxardo maraschino cherries

  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a mixing glass with ice

  2. Stir for 45 seconds

  3. Strain into a chilled coupe glass

  4. Garnish with a coupe cherries on a pick



Chemist Manhattan

  • 2oz (60ml) Whistlepig 10yr rye

  • 1oz (30ml) Carpano Antica sweet vermouth

  • 2 dash Angostura bitters

  • Luxardo maraschino cherries

  1. Using the directional freezing method, make a clear ice block

  2. Take a drill and a 1/2” spade drill bit and drill a channel through the block

  3. Make your Manhattan in a mixing glass and put it aside

  4. Using the Smoking Gun, run applewood smoke through the ice channel

  5. Place a rocks glass under the exit of the channel and pour your Manhattan through

  6. Garnish with cherry and serve
